DEP Announces Outstanding Contaminated Water Samples

Recent water quality results taken in Escambia and Walton Counties were found to be contaminated. The samples were taken by BP in October and indicate hits of petroleum contaminants. The positives in Pensacola locations were not surprising. The Seagrove Beach location in Walton County was unexpected. DEP’s water sampling team went out again this past Monday to the same areas to collect additional samples. The SCAT reports have consistently shown elevated numbers of tarballs washing up in Walton County. Here are their results. Stay Tuned for the DEP follow-up sample results….

Surfrider Test Results for Nov. 11

Test results for the samples taken on 11-11-10 have been received.  Samples were collect by Emerald Coast Surfrider members at the following locations:  Panama City Pier Park, Blue Mountain Beach, Miramar Beach and Okaloosa Pier and analyzed for the dispersant ingredients Propylene glycol and 2-Butoxyethanol. Neither component was detected in any of the samples. However, the lab did have some trouble calibrating their instruments and reported that the results for Propylene glycol may be biased low. So, no major hits to report, but we can’t be confident that these samples were completely clean either. We are looking into doing further testing on this sample.
